A Few Things:

Rounds starting immediately is intentional as it speeds up the gameplay.
PHD will protect you from all Nova/EMP explosions except ‘Kamikazes’ (and you won’t lose your perks if hit by one)
You can only have one wonder weapon at a time, and if you’re currently holding one you won’t see another in the box.
Juggernauts are not affected by the Sliquifier or Baby Gun.
Novas don’t spawn until the power is turned on.
There are ways to get more than 4 perks.
